Hey, alright! feedback!

[smc] Hmm. Ok, And plain, unpatched CVS 1.11 behaves
in the same way when I tried it. (as you say, regardless of
whether a magic tag is specified) I'm not sure I understand
the significance of a tag existing in val-tags but not in the file.
What does that mean? What *should* it do in this case?
should "val-tags_only_tag" behave differently than
"val-tags_only_tag.origin" or "val-tags_only_tag.trunk"?

[smc] Yeah, that's less than ideal, I suppose. I can look into
trying to do something better there.

[smc]
So, perhaps the best thing to do is to say that ".trunk.origin"
just doesn't make any sense and reject it early on. I can look
into making it do that, if that's preferable.
However, I've fallen off the internet at home, I'm in the
process of switching ISPs, and currently have no ISP.
At work, I'm behind a firewall, plus too busy anyway.
.
So, it might take a few days before I'm back in business,
CVS-wise.
