Perhaps
"not recursing by default, thus omitting directory '/foo/bar'"
to make it explicit that recursing is an available option ?
I actually wondered about suggesting
"not recursing by default, thus omitting directory '/foo/bar', perhaps
you wanted to use -r?"
since that's actually what I have to tell my students.
