I installed this to warn about the possibly-unexpected consequences
of those options:

* doc/coreutils.texi (dd invocation): Warn about oflag=append without
conv=notrunc. See Debian bug 373736.
* src/dd.c (usage): Warn about oflag=append without conv=notrunc.
