Dear Sir/Madam: Mon Jun 13 12:32:41 AM EDT 2005
The date bug of mv is still present in
mv (coreutils) 5.2.1
distributed with Fedore Core 3. When superuser moves a
directory into a another directory, the date of the former
directory changes to the current date. At least this happens
when the latter directory is newly created. I don't know
if the problem occurs also when the directory is moved by a
regular user.
Apparently, the date does not change (i.e., the behavior
of mv is correct) if the superuser moves a regular file
into a directory.
This anomalous behavior was present in
mv (fileutils) 4.1
distributed with Redhat Linux 7.2. It was then discussed at
various forums. Apparently, the bug has not been fixed
since then.
Sincerely yours,
Attila
