Much like a lot of the Linux kernel people have a patch of their own,
incorporating their bug-fixes, I've decided to do likewise for
Cfengine.
On http://www.dur.ac.uk/a.d.stribblehill/cfengine/ you'll find a
small patch (22 Kb) which takes all the non-Debian-specific patches I
apply to the Debian package of Cfengine (that is, cfengine2.deb).
I expect to update this every time I release a new Debian package
version which contains modifications to the source.
The patches are almost all to fix problems that users have reported
about the latest released Cfengine; many of these patches have
already been accepted by Mark but he isn't ready to release a new
version for a while yet.
Other than the host of bug-fixes that this adds, there are two
experimental features in this patch:
* DefineInGroup: if you want to add a class on the basis of being
in an editfiles BeginGroup ... EndGroup section, use this.
* Variable EmailMaxLines: if you set this to a number or "inf",
Cfexecd will print at most this number of lines instead of the
default of 100. Setting it to 0 disables emailing of results.
That said, neither change affects other parts of the system greatly so
even if they themselves are unstable they won't make Cfengine as a
whole more buggy.
In short, if you've been hit by any problems in Cfengine 2.0.5, try
my patch -- currently 2.0.5-ads4 -- and see if it's resolved.
PS. To remind you that you're running an unofficial version, if you
apply this, you'll get a line in the output of 'cfagent -V' saying,
$PatchVersion: 2.0.5-ads4 $
