What about @<.@ @.>@ ? They have the slight disadvantage that the dot
usually needs a backslash within a regular expression.
If you want { } too then for them I'd suggest @<-@ @->@ or @<;@ @;>@.
Thinking about it, it's clear that [ ] should have been written as
@|:@ @:|@
