[GNU Bison 1.875] testsuite: 27 36 37 44 47 79 81 82 85 87 89 94 failed

Trying to build / install PostgreSQL 7.4.8 on a Mac mini ("G4" PPC) running 
MacOS X 10.4.2 - it failed because Bison wasn't 1.8.75 or better.  (MacOS X 
10.4 "Tiger" seems to ship with "GNU Bison version 1.28")

Downloaded and make'd Bison 1.8.75.
As attached, the 'make check' failed in various places.

As a side note, the top of the .log under "Platform" shows "unknown" for 
various status programs that are located differently on MacOS X:

/bin/arch              = unknown          ===>     /usr/bin/arch          =  ppc
/bin/machine           = unknown         ===>     /usr/bin/machine       = 
ppc7450

On this platform, uname does not take -X and arch does not take any arguments, 
including arch -k .
