It looks like something to ask in the newsgroup comp.compilers. You have
several option there, I think, depending on how high level you want have on
your language. A fairly low level language is a bytecode language. Simon
Peyton-Jones has allegedly written a book on the implementation of
functional languages
and bytecodes. For pretty-printing, guile-oop looks interesting.
