As I recall, the original Flex developer Vern Paxson <address@hidden> has
put  the maintaining to a new person with that email address, but this
person is merely keeping it, not developing it, and does not reply to email.

So if you would want to see an improved lexer generator in the future,
perhaps GNU should make an entirely new one.
