Thanks for your report.  The test suite will be revamped anyway, but
before the release, not now.

What happens is not exactly what you describe: it turns out you are
more or less a maintainer, as you are in the situation of creating
files under the control of the maintainers (testsuite), because it is
not under CVS, and it won't be.

So bison distchecks perfectly, which is the proof everything is OK wrt
this, but *you* have to build in place, then using `make dist' you'll
have `src != build' buildable tarball.
