None of that really matters - since all shells do the same thing here
(or did before nofork cmdsubs appeared), it is clear what the standard
should say.   I am fairly confident here that no-one was attempting to
force some different behaviour, or even considered that as a possibility.

If the language that's there now (in Issue 8, we can more or less forget
Issue 7 now) isn't clear enough, then file a defect report, and get it
fixed (or at least, improved).
