The issue was fixed in Bash 4.3.  The datestamps on the patches for Bash
4.2 are not relevant.  The Bash 4.2 patches only fix specific bugs and
security issues in Bash 4.2 and do not backport all of 4.3's new features
and fixes.

If you absolutely cannot live with Bash 4.2 then your choices are to
upgrade to Bash 4.3 (either upstream or Debianized), or to switch to
a different shell, or to downgrade to some older version of Bash that
doesn't have the undesirable behavior.
