Fairly often: I frequently rename or retire scripts in my per-user bin
directory.
Since bash is happy to switch this on in POSIX mode, why not do so by
default? It's just another example of making something Just Work rather
than inflict a minor annoyance on the user which can only be resolved by
manual configuration (whose very existence escaped at least this
individual). This is precisely the sort of problem that I regularly fix in
my own systems and upstream, because in the big picture, it's just one of
many.
Is there a downside to making checkhash the default?
