THANK YOU! It's nice to know I'm not the only one laboring under wrong 
the notion that /bin/sh is always Posix. Which is not to say I don't 
wish that such OS's (*cough*Solaris*cough*) wouldn't get their act 
together and stop such nonsense, but...
