1/7 of my commands have trailing blanks

Try this:
history|grep \ $|wc -l; history|grep -v \ $|wc -l; history|wc -l
I get
821
4736
5557
meaning that 1/7 of my commands have trailing blanks. Do I really type
that many?  Well, maybe I cut and pasted, OK...
