Case-insensitive case matching |

Greetings,
After an unsuccessful attempt searching groups.google.com for the
answer, I've decided to post my question here.
Is there any way to perform a case-insensitive case command? As in,
case "$1" in
*.c)
...nifty shell code...
would match both file.c and File.C? I've already tried using "shopt -s
nocaseglob", but that didn't affect case statements.
Kind regards,
Kars Meyboom.
