[Bug-AUCTeX] make not found

Hi

I am trying to configure auctex-11.83 but I get this error message:

checking for make... no
configure: error: make not found, aborting!

I am terribly sorry if this is a simple problem caused by my technical 
incompetance and not really a bug report, but I have follwed the installation 
instructions very carefully, and I have searched the web thoroughly for 
descriptions of my problem for several days now, without any luck. I must have 
read hundreds of installation guides, problem descriptions, FAQs, etc. and I 
have no clue about what I am doing wrong, so I would be extremely grateful for 
any assistance.
