It is quite well written, thank you for you proposal!  Let me think about it.

Again, I *am* concerned with backward compatibility, and I cannot let you 
simplify things this way.  I do understand your concerns, but don't let people 
believe we happily break backward compatibility.  Most of the time when there's 
a problem, it's when people relied on implementation details.
