Hi Brian,
I'm also a novice Bibledit user, but here's a couple of thoughts.
Choose "View" menu then select "USFM code" to get the \c \v etc.
Choose "View" menu then Font & Color >  and then "Text", remove the check mark at the top in front of "Use default font", then you can choose an appropriate font from the list below which may help.

Hi.

I am new to Bibledit. This morning I installed Bibledit on my mac and accessed it by typing "bibledit-gtk" and was given the following error:
(process:67987): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Xlib:  extension "RANDR" missing on display "/tmp/launch-2tEc2L/:0".

Bibledit came up and I began to play with it by creating a new project. This has led me to several questions.

1. How do I start? I can navigate to the chapters and verses of my choice and I see a string of numbers at the top of the screen (which if I remove, then I can no longer navigate to those verses). Where do I enter the \c \v codes?

2. I can not type in Lao in bibledit. I can copy and paste Lao that I typed in elsewhere, but the vowels are all funny. (The vowels that occur above the consonants are monospaced and take a space all their own.) Is there any way to set the font that I want to something other than a monospace font?

3. Is the error message that I got important?

Any advice or help is appreciated.
