Details:

Bibleworks 9 (I don't know about 8) is exporting it's unicode files with the
Byte order mark (BOM). This is 3 bytes before the unicode text begins. 
Bibledit doesn't ignore those first three characters, so it is necessary to
re-save the Bibleworks without BOM or hex edit the file to remove the BOM. 
This is beyond the typical user's ability.
