Follow-up Comment #7, task #9999 (project bibledit):

I certainly agree about the usefulness of Bibledit. I have been thrilled to
see the program mature over these last three years. I use the program daily.

Our translation team works in various locations, and for the last years, we
have been using GoogleDocs for the collaborative phase of drafting and
revising. I am not often in the country. we have pages that use four column
tables. The columns are a sample Easy-Reading English version, a back
translation from our area, our draft, and a comment column. (The team uses
BART and TW also.) Using GoogleDocs allows for me to be able to comment and
our team to discuss problems on each verse in the adjacent column. This has
been helpful in mentoring my team. We don't do it often, but we can edit the
same document at the same time and also use instant messaging together between
the USA and Indonesia. But often the comment column gets messy or way too
long. Using Waves will greatly enhance the power and usefulness of this
system. And it will allow us to more easily save and catalogue comments that
would be helpful to other mother-tongue translators in other projects.

Internet connections are often slow in Indonesia, especially mid-day. Using
Gears, our team can still work on the same GoogleDocs when there is no
connection or a flakey connection. The next morning, when their computer is
again connected, Gears automatically re-syncs the documents. The speed and
availability of Internet connections is rapidly improving in Indonesia. In
only five years, I expect Internet connections to be quite usable for online
collaboration of documents and instant messaging, if not also using voice and
video.

It has been a major hassle for me to get our texts from GoogleDocs into
Bibledit. Once I transfer the text, if my team makes changes, I often don't
catch them. I also make changes in Bibledit and forget to update the
GoogleDocs. So if there could be a system (perhaps Apache) that would be able
to help monitor and update changes between the two, WOW, what a blessing that
would be!
