Follow-up Comment #1:

I seem to recall that this was a bug a good while ago, and has been fixed
since.

Trying our the scenario that is described in this bug report, no shifting of
verses occurs, and the editor stays at the verse it is working on.

If you have time pls. review the matter to see whether this bug has been
resolved in your case and situation.
