Follow-up Comment #7, bug #24483 (project bibledit):

I tried it on Kubuntu 8.04, and yes, there's the same error too. Enchant, the
spelling engine, has a problem with the shared dictionary. However, if one of
the standard dictionaries is installed, e.g. "en", then it works well.
