Details:

In BE 3.1.44 merging the texts:
'Thiiis is hiiis child' and
'Thhhis is hhhis child'
gives 2 choices in the merge dialog box:
<Thiiis>|<Thhhis> is <hiiis>|<hhhis> child.
Choosing on of the options in the first choice, e.g. <Thiiis>:
- chooses 'Thiiis' but at the same time throws out the second choice: 'Thiiis
is  child' (but still leaving the two empty spaces before and after the 3rd
word.

The same thing happens if there are 3 alternatives: if any one is chosen, the
other two ones disappear.
