Follow-up Comment #1:

This happens because the change is in the markers. If Bibledit finds a change
in markers, either inserted or deleted, then it treats that part as if it were
normal text, and no longer uses that text for formatting. In the example you
gave the "m" is exchanged with the "p". So both of these loose their marker
function, and now become text for the sake of displaying what changed.
