I was editing beaver.desktop and src/Makefile a bit in order to make the
Beaver icon in the menu work, then I came to this dilemma:
Which directory do we want Beaver to install by default?
/usr/local of /usr/local/share
The problem is:
If you install in /usr/local, Beaver is found by the terminal (if you
type "beaver", Beaver starts), but the beaver.desktop file is not
recognized by the FreeDesktop menu specifiction. So in this case Beaver
isn't available in the desktop environment menu and isn't available as
choice to open a MIME type as well.
If you install in /usr/local/share, Beaver is recognized by the
FreeDesktop menu specification, but it is not recognized by the terminal.
A possible solution may be to install in /usr/local, and then change the
XDG_DATA_DIRS environment variable, so that /usr/local/applications is
also checked for .desktop files.
Or a solution would be to install in /usr/share.
