I tried to reply to your previous message but it bounced.
You sent it from some random numeric username it seems.
Anyway, I retried the instructions I sent you and they work here.

In any case, I've put a recent tarball of Axiom at:
http://axiom.axiom-developer.org/axiom-website/download.html

Click on the link that reads:
  "The source code tarball from November 15, 2004 is here"
and store it somewhere (I'm assuming /tmp but you can put it anywhere
if you replace the /tmp)

Once you get it type:
tar -zxf axiom.20041115.tgz
cd axiom
export AXIOM=/tmp/axiom/mnt/linux
export PATH=$AXIOM/bin:$PATH
make
(wait until the build completes)
axiom
