Try to strace this, and see whether it's the correct device. If the
problem persists, sorry, I have to refer you to the libusb people for
help. If libusb cannot access the device, there's nothing AVRDUDE
could do for you.
Curious, does it work correctly when you're running it as root?
Perhaps there's any other security measure activated that checks more
than just the device's permission bits? (I'm a bit clueless on Linux
here, I could tell you more about FreeBSD...)
