That's right, these bug reports / patches have not yet been merged.
For the time being, you could resort to using -p m329, together with
-F (to override the signature check). The ATmega325 is an ATmega329
without the LCD hardware.
Alternatively, you could just copy the section of the ATmega329 to an
ATmega325 entry in your own avrdude.conf file, and just change the
chip name and signature bytes.
I don't know about Brian's plans for a new release, but simple patches
like this one should certainly be applied before rolling a new
release.
