The counter argument, though, is that C89 is already pretty old. Do we need to 
comply with that standard? Or are we just going to comply with the C99 standard?

What is our policy? (Sorry, but it's been a while since we've had this 
discussion that I've forgotten.) I thought at one point we said that we would 
comply with C99, but no earlier.
