Follow-up Comment #1:

This bug has been fixed by 2011-02-09, and the fix is part
of the 1.7.1 release.  Your bug report claims you were
reporting this against 1.7.1, but your description makes
me doubt this (WinAVR 20100110 predates that version by
more than a year).  Can you please clarify?
