That's exactly what I get here, but I think it's also what I used to
get with the older LaTeX version.

Obviously, yes.

It's even disabled by default, but it appears the RPM spec file does
enable it to also get the documentation build (similar to the FreeBSD
ports version that also wants to have documentation).
The main question is why doxygen's output is suddenly incompatible
with LaTeX. That's not supposed to happen. It's also a bit strange
that the latex command doesn't write any complaint to stderr, it just
exits with status 1.
Ah, yes, another reason might be not a LaTeX but a doxygen upgrade.
