Can you explain this a bit more?
You say there are already a lot of patches put into the base GCC script. Are
these patches specific to other targets? Are you saying that *none* of the
avr target specific patches are put into the Gentoo distribution of avr-gcc?

That would be a fantastic start! :-) Even if you could just confirm the
bugs.
On the avr-libc website, there is now a list of all bugs for the AVR
toolchain:

The list of GCC bugs marks which ones are *UNCONFIRMED*.
