Follow-up Comment #1, bug #13416 (project avr-libc):
I have explored this a little further and found that the problem is caused by
running reconf in this environment. It radically changes the aclocal.m4 file,
setting it so it expects the newer version of autoconf while the scripts have
all been made with the older version. The difference between the old scripts
(which were not rebuilt with reconf) and the new m4 settings is what causes
the problem. I have attached the resulting aclocal.m4 file.
I changed my scripts to more closely resemble the instructions for avr-libc
given at http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/user-manual/install_tools.html and
everything is working okay.
Note for others who may also be using the Moffitt/Erasmus shell scripts on
Gentoo: there is no need to run reconf unless you are building avr-libc from
CVS. If you _are_ building from CVS, you will have to temporarily rename your
system autoconf files to force the scripts to consistantly use one version.
