We do have the option to create more than one list as part of the
avr-libc project, so it should be easy enough to create an
address@hidden Jason, if you give me the email addresses of
the subscribers, I could mass-subscribe them through savannah's
mailman interfaces as well, preferrable by way of a mass-invitation,
so anybody knows the change in the mail server.

Yes, this is no problem. Just a simple cut paste operation for mass invitation like you say. There's around 1000 subscribers at present.

We might ask the savannah admins whether they could manually import
the old archives. As this won't be an instantenous action, there
might be a short period of time that will be missing in the archive

Yeah, there's been perfect archives since I took on the list in 2001 so it would be a shame. Still i'm sure it won't be the end of the world :) The mbox file is available.

Hmm, I just had a look, even list creation is currently a manual
process that needs to be done by way of a support request to the
savannah admins. So if there are no objections, I'll send that
request out.

Go for it, but read below first.

Jason, perhaps you might also announce that on avr-gcc-list itself.

Once we're all setup and ready.

Should we completely drop avr-chat by that time? I personally like
the idea of a chat list, but it seems too few people realized the line
between the GCC and the chat list.

The avr-chat list is not in use anymore, I just haven't deleted it :)

I too like the idea, perhaps we should force it upon people by inviting them to join both a new avr-gcc list and avr-chat list? Maybe the list descriptions should give a few hints which could make enough people think in the right direction.
