On my Athlon 900 box here at home, the current build without docs
takes 35 seconds.  In contrast, the CVS checkout from savannah just
took 40 seconds. ;-)

OK, build with docs is 1.5 minutes, so at least my ``2/3 required
for the docs'' feeling wasn't all that wrong. :-)

Would be 4.5 minutes (lib + docs) then here.  Sure, a lot more than
the current build, although I think it's still less than binutils
plus GCC.

I agree to fan it out per device then.  How would the transition
work?  If the linker is passed -mavrN, it looks there, otherwise
it just uses the -mmcu= option to look out for the respective
directory?
