Hmm, they are, and i advised the person posting in AVRfreaks to open a
bug report for it so it won't be forgotten.  Too bad you've closed it
without any discussion.  (I didn't have the time so far to start much
discussion myself.)

We used to tell everybody to prefer the direct assignment instead of
inb()/outb().  It is better readable, and better portable between the
various AVR C compilers.
