Maybe, rather than trial & error, it's better to debug the
(wrong) inline decision made? A quick glance at the compiler
options yields -fdump-ipa-cgraph and -fdump-ipa-inline where
the description looks like it could shed some light on that.
Perhaps Johann will read this, and can get you some deeper
insight ...
