I haven't really been a user of gdb+avarice, however...

Attached is a .pdf of the avarice man page, but you probably already have
access to that.

There is a tutorial on the WinAVR home page, written by Colin O'Flynn, on
how to use avarice with AVR-GDB. It's a little out-of-date, but avarice
hasn't changed too much either.
