Yes I believe so.

You may be surprised to learn that Atmel www.atmel.com  have DataFlash 
App-Notes. AN-4 (DOC0842.PDF) is an example. There is a wealth of 
information there.

I also suggest searching the AVR-forum at www.avrfreaks.net.
