I once wrote a PPP stack for syncPPP used in FreeBSD (mainly for ISDN
but it originated from hardware HDLC devices). It used to compile
into I think 13 KB of object code, although it's a lot more these days
(are the compilers that much worse or the remaining network
infrastructure that bloated? don't know).
I have no idea though how well that would port to the AVR.
