Well... I have been considering this feature for some time now, so based on that I'm willing to look into it. Unfortunately, I'm a little busy at the moment, as I am in the middle of two jobs, so I cannot guarantee my "responsiveness".
That said, it seems there are enough people active on this list to get a good discussion going on how the memory-space issue should look like seen from the prorammer's point of view.
I have started a new thread named "RFQ gcc memory space implementation" for this topic. I would surely like as many people as possible to join in on the discussion and/or the development of this.
