As far as the compiler is involved, I can't find
any problem with the experimental GCC 3.2 (avrfreaks
for win and Theodore's linux build).
And that has been tested with a tiny, multithreaded RTOS,
full TCP/IP stack and several applications - several
1000 lines of code.
However, I switched from -o3 to -os, because level 3
tries to inline nearly every local function, which
probably breaks the multithreading support (stolen
from the Liquorice project).
The only severe porting problem, which repeats every
few months with some new version, are those continuing
modifications of the AVR specific include files.
(Nah, no nagging! In general I'm very happy with the
compiler.)
