Hello Torsten,
Please check out AVaRICE at http://avarice.sourceforge.net.
It is a package for connecting the Atmel AVR JTAG ICE to avr-gdb.
We are currently using it to debug a serious c/c++ application (>10,000 NCSL)
for the ATMega128.
Please read the doco about obtaining Ted Roth's latest patches for avr-gdb
otherwise you won't have much success!
