Not true. Although the maintainers get the SPAM the SF lists can be closed to subscribers only. For the maintainer it is just a matter of clicking a few checkboxes to Discard or Reject based on whether a true non-member post was attempted. I also setup Forums and direct the post to a common users list so that non list members can ask questions. I do require a SF account to post using a Forum.
