Hell, no.  You'd have to know their jargon meanings to make sense of
that.

Personally, I positively *like* "witness" - it describes what it is in a
colourful way.  But agreed, it implies that "witnessing" is the *sole*
purpose of the file.  True for 'foo-stamp', not for 'data.c'.

Alexandre, your talents as a poet are wasted.  :)
