Ok, that's clearer now: third-party.mk is not an Makefile.am fragment.

Another idea is to ask configure to concatenate Makefile.in and
third-party.mk before building Makefile.  You can do that as
follow

  AC_CONFIG_FILES(Makefile:Makefile.in:third-party.mk)

(See the Autoconf manual for details about AC_CONFIG_FILES.)

If you prefer to use AC_SUBST_FILE, you should say address@hidden@' in
your Makefile.am, not `include @mkfile@' as you initially wrote.
