Your diagnosis and proposed solutions are right.  I've squashed in the fix
into 't/objc-basic.sh' and 't/objcxx-basic.sh', and fixed 't/suffix.sh' on
main with the attached patch.  I plan to merge the 'objc++-support' branch
into 'maint' by tomorrow if there are no more errors.
