FWIW, I find the above clear and thus preferable (including the comment
on why it is needed, of course), but if you insist ...

OK for maint.

A patch against autoconf.texi would probably be good.

FWIW, I guess users could also just be using /usr/ccs/bin/make;
it doesn't seem to have this bug.
