FWIW,
| zsh 4.3.2 (i686-pc-linux-gnu)
also has this problem, but
| zsh 4.3.4 (i686-pc-linux-gnu)
seems to have it fixed.

Erm, no. Look at the first set of as_lineno* initialisations:
| + as_lineno_1=
| + as_lineno_2=
These:
> + as_lineno_1=429
> + as_lineno_2=430
> + test x429 != x430
> + expr 429 + 1
> + test x430 = x430
stem from configure.lineno.
